Congresswoman Chellie Pingree announced today that Emmaline L. Pendleton of Buxton has accepted an offer to attend the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. Pingree nominated Pendleton to the Academy in December.

"Acceptance to a U.S. service academy is extremely competitive and reflects highly on a student's scholarship, community service, and character," said Congresswoman Pingree. "Along with all the other Maine students I nominated, Emma has demonstrated an incredible commitment to serving the country and a maturity well beyond her years. I'm very proud that she was accepted to West Point and wish her the very best in her time there."

"I have the incredible honor of having a father who attended West Point and served in the military, and he has been able to lead me to an understanding and respect for the commitment that joining the military is, along with the many challenges it comes with," Pendleton wrote in her letter requesting a nomination. "I believe that serving in the military is the greatest pursuit of service and sacrifice."

Pendleton is a senior at Bonny Eagle High School. Her parents are Todd and Heather Pendleton. Contact information is available on request.

To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by an authorized nominating source, which includes Members of Congress.
